Man Lights Crack Pipe in Police Custody

In what is a sign of either sheer stupidity, insane addiction, or interrogation preparation, Rodney Watkins of Roselawn, Ohio lit a crack pipe in police custody.  Not in front of an undercover cop, but in actual custody.  He was arrested at a traffic stop and gave false identification.  He was taken into custody on felony warrants and taken to the police department.

Fox 19.com reports that after using the bathroom, he pulled out a crack pipe and lighter and attempted to smoke the remaining crack. What they don’t report is where Watkins pulled the crack pipe from, and why the officers hadn’t patted him down effectively enough to find a crack pipe and lighter before he got to the police station.

Maybe he figured he was done for and going to spend a lot of time in prison, so he might as well get another hit. Maybe the litany of charges he faced (theft, drug abuse, obstruction) were long enough that one more charge for possession wasn’t going to add much to the sentence.  Maybe cocaine is just a really powerful drug.  It probably made the interrogation easier to handle.
