Florida Burglar Leaves Phone in House; Mom Calls; Shortest CSI Episode Ever

Florida seems to be the State leading the nation in criminals helped by their moms.  There was the story out of Greenacres with the kid who robbed an old man in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and got a ride home from his mom (link here).  Now, there is a kid who burglarized a house, and like the genius he apparently is, left his cell phone in the house.

Criminal Mastermind Derek Codd
Let’s be clear. This wasn’t an unfortunate mishap where he dropped it out of a pocket because he hadn’t bothered to get an officially-licensed phone holster.  This genius left the phone on the kitchen counter.

When the homeowners got home to a burglarized home, they called police.  Police came and saw the phone. While they were investigating, the phone rang and it was the burglar’s mom.  Easy night for the Palm Beach County CSI squad.  Seriously, does it get much easier than this?  When I was a high-school kid in Chicago, the police who showed up at the Dunkin Donuts and there was a smoking a spliff at a table while the other patrons sat in the parking lot waiting for the cops to make their donut run had a slightly easier time.  Slightly.  This episode of CSI would take thirty seconds.  The investigators knew it was the burglar’s mom because “Mom” appeared on the phone because she was in his contacts as that.  The investigator answered the phone and asked who the phone belonged to and the woman said her son, Derek Codd.  Case solved.

Investigators then tracked down Codd, who while he had left his own cell phone at the house he robbed, had stolen the victim’s phone. He also had the man’s shotgun.  A woman who was with him, Kristen Rynearson, 19, of Lantana, had 49 pieces of jewelry belonging to the victim's wife in her purse.

I wonder if the investigators took the rest of the night off.  Seriously, Codd was so inept he may have to face a competency hearing.
