There
is a town north of Houston, on the outer fringes of the suburbs called
Spendora. Most of it is not splendid.
Most of it isn’t that bad, but guys like Marc Saunders give it and most
of east Texas a bad name. KHOU reports that
Saunders was found guilty and sentenced for a cruel and inexplicable act
against a donkey in 2012. He dragged a
donkey behind his SUV, then left it injured along the roadside.
He then dragged the donkey.
He
was sentenced to five years in prison, which seems fair. Donkeys are
hard-headed and don’t like to be led anywhere. Everyone knows that. They are also extremely useful to have on
ranches as they keep coyotes away. They
wander off and have to be coaxed anywhere they go. This has been known for centuries. Anyone who has ever dealt with a donkey
should have known this. The jury likely
knew this, and knew that Saunders should have known this. He also had a friend in the back of the SUV
who was watching the donkey, and pleading with Saunders to stop the SUV. Saunders did stop, but by then the Donkey was
severely injured.
