Feds Arrest East Texas Police Chief for Role in Meth Ring

Normangee, Texas Police Chief Joseph Ray “Jody” Navarro is in federal custody, charged with a seemingly innocuous count of intentionally exceeding authorized access to a protected computer.  What he is really accused of is using a law enforcement computer to aid an alleged meth trafficker named Antanette Evans. (Houston Chronicle)

According to the US Attorney, Navarro ran a background check on a name supplied to him by Evans, who has been indicted for selling meth to an undercover agent.

Not much else is known, or in the public realm now, about the case.  If convicted, Navarro, the police chief faces five years in federal prison.  It’ll be interesting to see what the investigation cracks open.
