There are some things that are a
bad idea to start with. Having monkeys
as pets is one of them. Having monkeys
in Florida is another. Having a monkey as a pet in Florida, where animals have
no respect for the dominant primordial role of man, where bears use swimming pools with impunity
and where snakes surf, is a recipe for disaster.
I don’t know when the first
person decided to get a rhesus macaque as a pet or service animal was. It probably seemed like a good idea. They have opposable thumbs and can climb
things and look like little people, but can probably be trained to use the
bathroom and can be put in a cage when a kid cannot. And the person probably
thought, they don’t talk back.
Well, they do other things, like
break into cars. Local 6 in Orlando has
reported that one neighborhood has had a
rash of car break-ins from a rhesus macaque in the Mirabay neighborhood in
Apollo Beach. “The animal is believed to
be breaking into cars and disturbing things inside, but not taking things.” It’s just jacking with people and their
stuff.
I don't know if this rhesus macaque is an escaped service animal, an escaped zoo animal, or was used for medical testing. If it is any of the other categories, then like the neighbors say, it should be caught and removed. It’s Florida, though, so good luck with that.
